FEARLESS

I don’t like writing tedious long blog posts, especially when they’re very personal. I got my first tattoo last week- the day before my birthday. I never thought I would have a tattoo (ever), and I didn’t even have plans to get one until the afternoon of September 19th. I believe birthdays are a new year for people, and a fresh start. A new beginning to regain your confidence and make new goals for yourself, while still continuing to chase the dreams you already have for yourself.

It just came to me: I want to get a tattoo. Somewhere that isn’t hidden, somewhere that makes a statement, but definitely not too big. I decided I wanted it on my right arm near my wrist. I knew I wanted it to be a word. I knew I wanted it to be in beautiful cursive writing. But, I didn’t even know where to begin. I hadn’t even researched anything, let alone the tattoo place I would go to.

Getting a tattoo is a big deal. With almost everything in my life (especially important things that can potentially affect your health), I always spend weeks researching the best places to go. I asked a few friends if they had any recommendations. None of my friends really have tattoos. This was a new world for me. I googled "best tattoo places in Miami", and in the top five I found, Iris Tattoo Studio. Not only did they have amazing reviews, but I like the fact that they were real artists and it was like going into an art studio. Most of the reviews said that they felt right at home, and I loved that.

To make a long story short I contacted them, and that same day I got an appointment at 5pm. I showed up at 4pm, an hour early because I was so nervous, and as soon as I walked in, I did feel right at home and very comfortable. All of my worries immediately vanished. Maria did my tattoo and she did an amazing job and made me feel so comfortable. Honestly, it didn’t even hurt! It mostly felt like an annoying continuous cat scratch. Best of all, it only took ten minutes. I am very happy with my tattoo, and I’m so happy I did not go anywhere else! I highly recommend Iris Tattoo Studio to everyone wanting a tattoo.

Fearless

I chose the word "fearless" because it has great meaning to me and I love that whenever I write, or look down at my arm, I can see it.

I have been through so much in my life, I feel like I’ve already lived through several lives in just one lifetime. I moved a lot growing up,(since I was born), and went to five different high schools from Las Vegas to The Washington D.C. area. As a teenager, not being in one place for more than a year has honestly strengthened me as a person and has helped me become the strong woman I am today. I am an only child who was raised by a single mom, so I’ve had no siblings to go through anything with. I have always relied on meeting new people and making friends. Today, I feel like I can talk to anyone and I can do anything. For those that know me, know that this is so true.

I moved to Miami (I drove from Northern Virginia not knowing anyone or never having visited the state of Florida before) by myself, with only my rescue dog Duchess, and have been here since 2011.

I didn’t want just any tattoo, I wanted something with meaning. I got the word “fearless” in cursive on my wrist because it will remind me everyday to be just that. I have been through so much in my life, and this is just a daily reminder to not go through life with fear, but to be fearless.

  1. This place doesn’t have any 'i'm too cool and busy for you' wait staff. As per me, everyone here is nice, friendly, and helpful and they really seem to like their jobs at venues in NYC here and that is important to me. We had an awesome experience here.
